Nokia N81 Slider Menu - This is What's Missing From the N95
by Darla
I know not all devices are supposed to be the same, but if we take a look at past devices such as the N80 it was easy to end a call by closing the slider. I've mentioned this before and find it weird that the feature woudln't be included on any of the N95's.
I recently received an N81 8GB and for those that don't have one, this is the point that I'm trying to make.
The screenshots show the ability to change the way your device functions when using the slider.
This is what I want!! Why can't I have it? Why on earth should this be missing from a dual-slider device such as the N95 family?
I know it might not seem like a big deal, but to some it is. I think it should be standard on all sliders. But at least its nice to see that users can customize how their device performs when using the slider.
What say you?

I cant believe Nokia didnt include that in the n95 :-S

Darla, I COMPLETELY agree with you. I can't tell you how many times I have slid the N95 closed after a call and find out the caller is still online. This could have been bad if I slammed someone after hanging up or something. I mentioned this in my N81 8GB first thoughts and think Nokia should issue an update to the N95 that adds this functionality and really cannot believe they left this out in the first place.

Totally agree Darla, when I saw the option on my N81 I thought is was great. I'm sure this can be fixed with a simple FW upgrade.

Gimme, gimme, gimme! :)
Keypad lock is probably my biggest single aggravation with my N95. I am constantly unlocking and locking my keypad to the point of madness. I soooo hope this makes the next N95 firmware update (though I expect it will not).

maybe it has something to do with the dual sliding nature of the phone. Possible they figured there would be some kind of conflict.
I do hope they add this option in future firmware updates. In fact there are alot they could do to bring the N95 classic up to date with it N95 8GB, N82 and N81 cousins just from firmware alone.

Totally agree, why on earth did Nokia leave this out of the N95?
Want. Now.

I wholeheartedly agree Darla. That was one thing I really missed when I was using the N95.
Also, while talking about Nokia's sliders - The Nokia E65 can't even autolock the keypad when slid. Talk about missing features.

Wow- now I see what you mean, Darla! Where is this feature menu on the flagship device?!?
Very cool feature. Even if you like the operation of the slider- I for one like to be able to close the slider while on a call and not have it ended, and I like the autokeypad lock, but even more than that- I like the option to have it operate the way I want.

I thought I was the only one! When I got my phone I was searching all over the place for that setting. It is a must in the next firmware upgrade.

I'd love to see this on the n95. But my main slider problem with the n95 is that I wish we could change it so that if I slide open the music keys it DOESN'T launch the media menu, it's so slow and I never use it.
Although, to be honest the only time I ever use the media key slide is by accident when pulling it out of my pocket. Dual slide is such a gimmick.

I hate to be the voice of dissention, but someone has to. I think it's a beautiful thing that call doesn't end upon close. My first six devices were candybar style Nokia's and I use my N95 mostly closed. I hate talking on it with it while it's open, it feels so cumbersome. I'm all for settings that allow users to customize however they like, but talk of a "firmware fix" for one of my most coveted features (I don't have to open my phone to take a call), is utter madness

Oh, and the keylock is adjustable. You can set it to lock or not lock upon opening and closing, you can lock/unlock manually, as with most Nokia devices, or you can set it to a timer so that it locks after a specified amount of time. Don't go saying that the people at Nokia aren't perfect and haven't thought of it all, because they are and they have!
