A "New Yorkers" Minute
by Darla
I'm finding that being down here in the south everyone moves at the speed of turtle!!! I dunno what it is, maybe its just me, but corn grows faster than the movement of most people. Case in point: I call my friend and ask them if they are dressed and want to go out to eat. Now where I'm from, dressed means redt to go... thats right, "redt"!! Redt is a speedy form of ready, meaning its too fast to even spell out. Now I get there, and she's just getting out of the shower, no clothes laid out, hair undone... but she told me she was ready!!
Ready or redt to me does not mean:
- You are sitting on the couch, watching tv until I get there and then get dressed.
- You just got out of the shower the minute I get to the door and have a visual image of what you are gonna put on.
- That you should assume that I'm gonna sit there and wait for you!!
See, we New Yorkers believe in the "now" factor. Can't help it, its just like that. Everything moves fast, hence the slogan "New York Minutes". And even though I'm now in the south, I will not let that factor about me change.
I thought about writing this as I dined alone tonight.

You want to try driving a car through mid/west Wales and North Wales and then you'll know what S-L-O-W is about! Anything between Lampeter, through Aberystwyth and Machynlleth and up to Dolgellau and Porthmadog that goes over 30Mph isn't local, and isn't stuck behind a tractor or a Middle Class big-car driver!

That would be for a definate cause of "road rage"!!

here's another one, you think the south is bad? Try being behind a hay truck driver in northern Idaho...
they believe that a freeway onramp is their own personal creepzone... by the time they hit the freeway, if they've exceeded 20mph they feel very out of control!

"Ready to go" means exactly the same thing in NYC and in the South. But in NYC, when you ring the doorbell, the "get out of the shower and get entirely dressed" operation happens on the way to the answer the door, in about 20 seconds.
By the way, don;t let those ol' Southerners fool you. Many of them think 100 times faster than they talk.
